Is this a good financial aid package for a public university?

Yes, that is very good. Not too much in loans, but lots of grant money and some work-study money. I think you did quite well.

Wow! That's a phenomenal package these days. Very little in loans, mostly in grants, which are tough to get. While you do have Work-Study, you can earn a lot more working over summers & school holidays. Remember, 80% of American college students work at least 20 hrs/week during the school year (full-time summers, holidays, etc.).

Looks great! But how much out of pocket do you need to pay? What about room and board, books, travel. Other expenses to attend.

Realize that $5500 in loans (x 4years) you will need to pay back.

It looks like you've got just $5,500 in loans, so that's pretty good. Of course, you don't have to accept the loans and if possible, you should not take the unsubsidized one.

The only thing the student is always obligated to pay is the tuition and fees.
