    The biblical answer is inhospitability. The actual answer is natural disaster in the form of gas pocket explosions. When it comes to theism, a natural event occurs and then you make up a magical tale about why it happened. There were 5 towns in the region, all with the same inhospitability, yet only two sustained damage from this natural disaster.

    Sodom and Gomorrah were just two of the five cities in the Vale (Vally) of Siddim that were destroyed. They were destroyed because of their homosexuality; their sin was their "idleness of time" which came from their wealth, and their unwillingness to share their wealth with those truly in need. (Genesis 14:3,8, 10)

    Source(s): Ezekiel 16:49 - "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy."

    The Bible doesn't tell us what specifically Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed for but it does tell us that when the angels went to visit lot a band of homosexuals tried to break in to lotz house. The moral decay of the city was so bad that God decided it was time for it to go.

    We don't have any visible remains of Sodom and Gomorrah except some burned bricks and pieces of tar paper underneath the sand. But we do have the remains of Pompeii destroyed by Mount Vesuvius believe it was no accident that this entire city was preserved so that you could see with your own two eyes what was going on in the streets. Google the mummies of Pompeii. and see for yourself what was going on in broad daylight.

    It was a package deal. What the Lord mentions specifically is violence. I don't think we can point at one particular type of sin and say, "That is why God destroyed the vale of Sittim." They were all happening all the time.

    According to Ezekiel 16:49, it was because they practiced something like Reagan Republicanism.

    Jude 7 KJV

    7Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

    The Sin was inhospitality

    The problem with most people who say it was sexual deviancy is they have never actually read their bible.

    @Hannah J Paul.

    and what would a JW know about Sexual Morality? What would a member of a Cult that hushed up and ignored massive Sexual Abuse of Minors by Church Leaders seriously know about Sexual Morality.

    Lot was violating the custom of entertaining unknown guests within the city walls at night without obtaining the permission of the elders of the city. When the men of Sodom gathered around to demand that the strangers be brought out to them, "that they might know them," they meant no more than to "know" who they were, and the city was consequently destroyed not for sexual immorality, but for the sin of inhospitality to strangers.

    It seems to me that Iran is the country who is interested in starting a war. They have said they want a nuclear bomb so they can eliminate Israel.

    All of these things. In-hospitality or theft were the main ones. The Talmud says the final straw was when they permitted marriages between men. After breaking all 7 Noahide laws the nation was destroyed by fire from heaven.
