Why do Roman's get credit for all the Etruscans work?

    I believe there was a Douglas Adams short (or maybe it was an excerpt from one of his "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" stories) where an alien race, discovering the ruins of Earth thousands of years after human extinction assumed that the planet's dominant life forms were lawyers and insurance adjusters, simply because of the massive amount of meticulous records they'd left behind...

    What Etruscan work? The Cloaca Maxima and togas? The Etruscan origins of both these is well known to anyone studying Ancient Rome.

    I'm guessing Etruscans was either a Roman or, employed [ok slave] of the Romans.
