Is a 20 gauge shotgun good for home defense?

    If that is all you got, yes. I would check to see if you can use slugs thru it and if not, use buckshot.

    Not quite as good as a 12 ga, but better than a rock in most cases.

    Mossberg 500 with deer hunting barrel with back sight for slug if needed. Butt ammo holdersleeve with 2 slugs, 2

    #3 buckshot and a rabbit load plus 4 rounds in magazine with old waterfowl loads #4 shot, empty chamber for general storage. distant target gives time for slug to be loaded if needed, short range threat of 2 legged variety gets a quick rack back to load coarse shot able to poke big hole in belly of attacker under 10 meter threat range or duck dinner at 25 meters.

    Certainly effective, mine is a 12 Ga though, hardly different with home defense in mind.

    Single shot reloading you can do better, a DBL or pump.

    It is for the most part. If you are comfortable using it and have shot it many times. A pump is way better than a bolt of single shot.
