Tony Soprano were there any other actors that could’ve pulled off Tony S other than James Gandolfini?

Are there any other actors that could’ve been successful as Tony Soprano in the world or is James zgandolfini the only reason it worked out?

    Others could have done just fine but not in the same way. Sopranos creator David Chase said about Gandolfini;

    'His eyes are very expressive. There's something about him that's very caring, which you see in him no matter what he's doing. There's a sadness there. As cynical, bullying, vulgar and overbearing as he could be, there's still a little boy in there. He did a lot of mean things, and he enjoyed vengeance, but he didn't seem mean. Somewhere he believed that people are good. There were some roads he was not going to go down, because there was no coming back.'

    Possibly there could have been other actors that could have played the part just as good.

    You're looking at Gandolfini after he pulled off his roll of a life time.

    Who was he before? Can you name one roll which wasn't eminently forgettable and couldn't have been played by dozens of other actors?

    He is no Steve Buscemi, where you're constantly surprised by yet another great roll.

    "The only reason it worked out" is a vast understatement. He took it way beyond just another mob crime boss, and really made the part his own. IF there was a remake, then a different actor would have to put his stamp on it, by bringing something unique to the table.

    No. I think he made the part his own. Superb acting. He underplayed the violent psychopath to perfection. A huge loss to the acting profession.
