If you disturb an RC oscillator, for how long this disturbance will continue before returning to stable state?

Are there circuits which explore this disturbance.

    RC oscillator decays with a time constant t=1/(RC). After this time the amplitude decreases e fold. The t =2/(RC) will be fine.
