My son took a random pic that is unbelievable special. How can I find a market for it?

He can always start selling on stock sites to test the waters & make a small side income. My referral links to my favorite 3 sites:

A photo contest really is your best bet. No one buys single images, unless they are of a major news event or something similar. If it IS of such an event, a newspaper or news service would be interested.

If your son has talent -- if this wasn't just an accident -- encourage him to build up a portfolio of his work. He might want to study photography, take some classes. Eventually, a gallery that specializes in photography might want to represent him.

Have the image critiqued first. Post it on 500px.com and see what happens. Or, as has been mentioned, take it to an art gallery and get an unbiased opinion.

Generally having just one image isn't going to be enough to sell. Places that accept work like stock agencies or galleries want large bodies of work, and not just a single image.

You can try selling the image on etsy, ebay and the like, but before spending a dime on this unbelievably special image, have the image critiqued. Either go to an art gallery or take it to a local professional photographer and talk to them about the image. Also note that images that look fine on your phone or tablet often completely fall apart when printed. Was the image made with a phone or a real camera? If it was with a phone, then it's likely that you'll be limited to prints no larger than 8x10 which is too small for most people who buy wall art.

Make a QUALITY print of it, and that does NOT mean some garbage crap from Walmart and the like. Use a pro lab such as Mpix. Print it at least an 11 x 14. Frame it nicely. Take it to an art gallery for an opinion. My strong hunch is that you will very quickly realize that the "pic" is NOT "unbelievable special".

She needs to take it to a gallery that specializes in photography. Most do not.
