Why do people go to bars?

Paying a bunch of overpriced drinks, being around a bunch of jealous controling guys who either want to kick you out or pick a fight with you if they see you talking to a girl, doesnt sound like fun to me

I go for companionship and conversation with peers. And the chance that I might pick up a lonely housewife.

Socialization a lot of the time. Other times, it's because people are drunks and it's what they do - become barflies

Depends on the bar. My people will meet up once in a while with friends at a particular bar, (small farming town), get dinner (the kitchen is amazing), put $ in the jukebox, play a few rounds of pool...especially on Wing Night, when local folks like to meet and greet for a spell. Winters are long. :)
