Why is it hard to own up to our mistakes?

If we made a mistake or did something stupid, and we need to tell a friend, parent, ect, why is it so hard to get our selves to do so? Curious is all.

No one likes to look stupid and avoiding an unpleasant situation or confrontation is perceived as an easier path.

Most likely because we don't want to be seen as someone who makes mistakes or does things wrong. So this makes it hard to own up, but the best thing we can do is to admit our faults and mistakes and be sincere about an apology if we feel one is necessary.

Everyone has made mistakes and really screwed up in their lives.... everyone. No exceptions

    And everyone has secrets too

Fear of rejection, judgement, ridicule - are just some of the reasons. Perceived as a weakness for being honest.
