Why is it a felony to lie at MEPS?

Can't they just kick you out and leave it at that? Seems a little harsh to treat a liar as a felon.

    Because you are lying for a federal position. They don't know who you are. You could be spy, a terrorist or some lunatic. It's not like applying for McDonald's or an office job. Those are not state or federal jobs.

    Because the government has to rely on you telling the truth about yourself, your history and condition.

    because enlisting involves signing a LEGALLY binding contract.

    If not, you'd be free to just quit and walk away any time you want, like a normal job.

    So lying, to fraudulent enlistment. You are a con man, trying to sign a deal, while knowingly lying about YOUR ability, to keep your end of the bargain.

    Cite the law on this. You read in many questions here about recruiters telling people to lie.
