Why is it a felony to lie at MEPS?
Can't they just kick you out and leave it at that? Seems a little harsh to treat a liar as a felon.

Because you are lying for a federal position. They don't know who you are. You could be spy, a terrorist or some lunatic. It's not like applying for McDonald's or an office job. because enlisting involves signing a LEGALLY binding contract.
If not, you'd be free to just quit and walk away any time you want, like a normal job.
So lying, to enlist.............is fraudulent enlistment. You are a con man, trying to sign a deal, while knowingly lying about YOUR ability, to keep your end of the bargain.
