I want to help people, but whenever I see a homeless person, I look the other way. Why?

Because you don't really care about people. Like most people, what you care about is how "helping" makes you feel about yourself.

Do this. Next time you see a homeless person DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY. Sit down next to him/her and have a ordinary conversation with them. You could say, "Hey, I won't give you any money, but if you're hungry, I'll pop into that McDonald's over there and buy us lunch. How's that sound?" You could also just say something like, "It sure is hot today, yeah?" What you'll discover is that the homeless person NEVER has anyone to talk to and is dying for just normal human contact.

You could also volunteer your time at a shelter and sit and talk to them.

Voting for Democrats and posting your hatred for Republicans on Twitter and how conservatives are to blame for the ills in the world won't do a damn thing until YOU are ready to get your hands dirty.

I'm a Catholic, conservative, Republican and never give homeless people money. Nor do I ever vote for tax dollars to be taken form someone else to make me feel like I've done my duty. What I've done since I was 19-years-old is exactly what I wrote above. I show homeless people personal human compassion and empathy.

You "want to help"? Quit hiding behind false compassion and get over your squeamishness.

IT is difficult to "help the homeless unless you do it with in an organization and even then you can be taken advantaged of very often.

It's often hard to look at someone who's regressed so far back into a feral state.
