I want to visit and hang out in Las Vegas a lot but i Think i have to live in California, what city in CA is good for a Vegas guy?

not far, decent town/city culture, preferably smaller since enough city crap going to Vegas.

Closest I can think of is Barstow, which according to the route planner on Google Earth is a 2hr 30minute blast up I-15.

It has an Amtrak Station for getting other places, which is viewable on the "Virtual Railfan" YouTube channel

There's not much choice for "good" places in California.... the homeless problems are freakin' ridiculous, the living costs apparently aren't much better, and seen posts from people saying they're financially better off living in red states even though they get 1/3rd less wages than they were getting in California.

California has politicians with a "tax the s**t outta everybody" mentality, while Nevada apparently has no State income tax.

The state of California also came last in a quality of life survey last year.... and there's a campaign to get rid of the current Governor.

Yes, CA has to tax a lot to keep those "red states" alive. You do know that the red states tend to suck money from the blue states. And of course you do know that most states red or blue are only about 55/45% red/blue

There's nothing in California that even qualifies as a 'town' within 200 miles of Vegas. The closest thing to an actual 'town' is Barstow. Otherwise you'd have to go another 40-50 miles west to get to places like Apple Valley and Victorville. Still in the desert. If you don't mind the heat and the dryness, they're not horrible. Actually Las Vegas itself is not that bad a place to live if you can deal with the heat.

Your best bet may be the fringes of the LA mess. Lancaster, Palmdale, Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley. But you're still 250 mi. away from Las Vegas. Visit the area for a day or two and see what you think.
