Why do we need elder care homes?

Because we now live much longer than previously and many cannot take care of themselves for the whole of their lives. Because we live to be very old our children are old themselves by the time we need care. My mother did not need that type of care until she was 93, by which time we 3 children were all too old to be able to take care of her sufficiently well without harming her or OURSELVES. We would have been of no use to her if we had been injured caring for her. We could then have all needed a care home. She died less than a week after we knew she would have to enter a home but she never knew that such a place was being discussed. Perfect timing.

Not everyone lives near their parents

Not everyone is free during the day to help them

Most are not able to spend the night with them

Some elderly don’t have family left

Some elderly need medical care that most of their adult children can not handle,

Some have dementia and need special care.

There needs to be a place between living on your own and having to be in a hospital.

It isn’t all about adult children who refuse to help. And not all senior care facilities are crap and dangerous. What we need now is more good care facilities that are reasonably priced

Because some people as they get older cannot care for themselves, some get very disabled, or get dementia, and sometimes families cannot care for them, sometimes they have no family.

Because there children are too old to care for them and there grand children are working 3 jobs to pay rent.

Wait until you are over 80, then you will know.

Because the burden sometimes becomes too much to bear and time constraints where both adults have to work and there is no one there to look after them.

because our society is overindividualised and not everybody has children who are able to take care of them

Because people end up with narcissistic children who leave them in these homes
