What kind of fruit is this?

It's growing in my backyard want to know what it is before I eat it.

Update:

So they are fairly big like grapefruits (better not be grapefruits) and feel very squishy, at least just the orange/yellow ones.

Maybe japan oranges. being that perfect round. Grapefruit, or limes. But they look to large for limes.

It's definitely a citrus fruit of some sort, but which sort is a little difficult to say. My immediate guess would be grapefruit, but there are many different hybrids, and many look pretty similar.

All citrus fruit are edible, so there is no harm in just eating one of the ripe-looking ones to try it out (double-check it's a citrus by the smell and the presence of segments once you cut the fruit open). Bear in mind that they may not quite be ripe yet (it is still fairly early), so even if they taste bad now, they may taste better in a month or two's time.

Probably a lime since they are spherical. May be a lemon since they are yellow. You have a good spot to have a lime tree that good. Tree needs some fertilizer next spring.

It's hard to see with the misty (on purpose?) picture, but they look like either lemons or apples.
