Hmm, it's 50/50. Back then manners and respect were very imposed and people dressed with class and dignity.

However, I don't think families were as close knit as it seems. I bet a lot of domestic/ child abuse happened and were swept under the rug due to censorship and fear of losing morals.

Also, the technology wasn't developed properly yet - people couldn't travel overseas that often, it was hard maintaining contact with relatives in other countries, and there was strong segregation between whites and Africans in USA. And there wasn't much in terms of digital entertainment - people had only the radio or going to the cinemas.

Only rich people dressed classy everyday. Most people were involved in heavy manual labour and with limited access to washing facilities, they probably stank.

    In 1919?

The computer game scene really sucked back then.

OK, I admit, things were quite good back then, if you were a white male.

If you were female, things were maybe slightly better than they used to be, but most of the democratic nations in the world were still debating about whether or not to allow you to vote.

Pollution wasn't as bad, absolutely. And things were simpler without social media, in a time where we were not immediately informed about all of the horrible things going on in the world.

In 1919, the "Great War" was ending, and people were about to start doing the Charleston dance, and there was a certain amount of liberalism and partying during what is called the "roaring 20s"...before the great economic depression, and the buildup to WWII. Things were pretty bad then, of course.

And, for a time, you were not legally allowed to drink alcohol. That definitely sucked.

People acquired more skills out of necessity than today: mechanics, however primitive they may seem today, crafting in idle time, primers in school were much more detailed, engineering, farming, and many job skills are now a thing if the past: ferriers, cobblers, etc.
