It depends what you mean by either side "winning" the war of 1812. It was a brief unenthusiastic war waged without much harm to either side, and it could reasonably be called a "draw", especially as at that time, much of Europe was engaged in far larger-scale conflict during the many years of the Napoleonic Wars.

U.S. sued for peace because it knew it couldn't finance an 1815 campaign.

Duhhh... I hate to tell you this, nameless, faceless, obviously brainless gutless coward "Anon." troll, but the U.K. DID with the War of 1812, & rather decisively at that. It was solely from the U.K. desire to have an end on it that the U.S. wasn't completely crushed in 1815. It didn't have the means to finance a campaign for that year.

    Would HAVE, not would of.

And the British DID win the War of 1812.

But then, so did the Americans.

The best history I've read of this conflict is a book called The War that Both Sides Won.

Well, no, there's no way at all anyone can conclude that the U.S. "won" the War of 1812. Not one of its declared objectives were met, & the country was virtually bankrupted into the late 1830's. 100% of Canada's war aims were met. The U.K. got what it needed. That's called "U.S. LOST."

Well the British didn't win, but they didn't lose the War of 1812.

    It was a stalemate.

Donald Trump would sign an executive order allowing him to wear a silly white wig.
