I have a bill of sale for a boat. How do I go about getting the title for it?

you should have gotten the title from the person who sold you the boat. if they didn't have the title, you should not have bought the boat.

A bill of sale has nothing to do with the title, merely a document as to what you paid for tax purposes. If you did not get a title from the seller you really did not buy it. Go back and tell the seller you need the clear title or a refund.

From the previous owner. Failing that, start by asking your registration bureau.

The owner of the boat has the title or they have lost it. Do not hand over any money for the boat until you see the title. If you have already paid for the boat demand a title from the seller. If you receive none then demand your money back. Give the seller time to get a duplicate title. The seller is the only one who can get a duplicate title.
