Can we stop evolution?
Like lets say we wanted to perserve how vegetables taste and don't want them to evolve into something else, could we do that?

Humans are living proof of arrested development! lol

Yes, it actually started with use of chemical to alter natural progression.

We can certainly do what you want done. The fruit and vegetables you buy and eat are rarely truly natural. They are all the result of artificial selection by humans.

You have an incorrect understanding of what evolution is. Evolution simply means genetic changes which occur after reproduction. We can select and only breed the vegetables we like, but somewhere down the line a random mutation could still occur, although we can remove it and keep breading only the ones we want. In that case, we would be controlling evolution to suit our tastes, not stop it. To stop evolution is to stop breeding or growing anything.

lol - we're the ones who made all the vegetables commonly sold in stores - you'd barely recognize the natural plants they were bred from. To stop evolution all you need to do is stop free mating in a population. Nonrandom mating prevents populations from evolving bur dooms them to eventual extinction because even though a population stops evolving, their environment does not stop changing. If you don't keep uo, you're dead.

We could simply NOT use the seeds of plants that taste different from what we want

We have already done that with the foods we eat. Evolution was replaced a long time ago with selective breeding. Also to some extent with genetic modification, that part scares me some. We're far from knowing enough about genetics to do that safely.

Vegetables are selectively bred, evolution doesn't really apply in this case, anything we don't like isn't selected for.
