First off 50 isn't old. And i know people up to 70 who aren't "old". They are still vital, healthy and lead productive, active lives.

Lots of people get "old" fast because they sit around doing not much at all. It's a personal choice.

It only lasts long if you eat junk food and have a poor lifestyle - that ends up putting you in the nursing home at 50. Then they drug you up and keep you preserved till 90. That the long route. The short route is where you eat and live healthfully and you work hard till you are 60 and slow slightly till 88 where you go to the bahamas on vacation and die in your sleep.

If you live to be 90 that is 90 years of getting older.

You are only old when you stop learning.
