College confusion?

Do you still get a student refund if you miss a lot of class ?

The most important thing to do is to notify your instructor as soon as possible that you will be absent. Then you can work with them to make up the work that will be missed or turn the work in early.

If you are talking about a refund for expenses while you are still enrolled, then IF you had a refund coming to you this semester, chances are it would have already been issued. If you attend a school that takes attendance, then your lack of attendance COULD theoretically delay any excess financial aid funds that might be due you. If you have taken out student loans to PAY for your education, WHY are you not in class?? College is not high school, where the administration rarely has the opportunity to kick you out of class because of poor attendance! A college CAN kick you out AND keep your money! Then, you have a student loan to pay off - with nothing to show for it.

Why would that ever be the case

Of course not! You pay in advance for the full term. If you drop a class before the cut-off date, you might be entitled to a tuition refund for that specific class. If you fail to attend your classes, that's your fault and you pay.

Every college has a refund policy, which can be found on the school website. Many (but not all) colleges have a sliding refund scale. The scale is a percentage based on how long after classes start that one withdraws. You have to officially withdraw to get any kind of refund.

each college sets own policies. some will refund if you are provably ill [usually very ill indeed]. many will not refund at all if you're just skipping going .. that's your problem, not theirs

No. To get a refund, you must OFFICIALLY (through the registrar) drop the class by the full refund date... this is usually during the first week of classes.

Even if you drop officially. After that date, you do not receive a refund (because it is too late for another student to fill, and pay for, your spot on the class).

If you do not officially drop the class by the “drop date” (usually about halfway through the semester), but you stop attending, you are likely to receive an “F” for the class.

No. If you paid for the classes but don't show up, they won't refund you.

No stupid. You have to DROP the CLASS IMMEDIATELY...after a certain date...YOU GET NOTHING BACK.

College is clearly a waste of time for you.
