What's the big deal in survival instinct.... what grand purpose is served by we minuscule beings trying to survive as long as possible?

The big deal is that we evolved to where we are now thanks to that instinct. What effect it has right now, we don't know. But let's hope that we don't ever have to find out if we still have that instinct. if the climate changes continue to get worse.

We don't know... yet. If we don't survive, we certainly never will know.

Humans don't have instincts, animals do. Survival is what the being inside of matter does to matter because the being is ignorant of knowing that he's not matter, and so wants matter to survive. Survival and ignorance are important to matter in evolution in order to evolve consciousness to support the being's split in consciousness and unconsciousness duality, or the being would lose consciousness, which could never happen, because all of this has always been and will always be going on forever.

The problem is the time invented by Man to set his own limits.

cause this is the only time we get to live on earth

Survival instinct is obviously selected for in evolution.
People and animals who lack it tend not to live long enough to reproduce.
That's the only purpose.
