who was "Pink Floyd" really? what they are doing now? when they were born, died, etc?

this is the most mysterious band I have known of and their music is amazingly deep and profound. and very good. far beyond what most "pop music" is today.

but never even knew what they looked like or even who they were? why?

Started by Syd Barrett. He stopped playing with them long ago because he did too much acid and lost touch with reality. Here is one of his solo songs after he left Pink Floyd. https://youtu.be/LULqoeaMPVM

Syd’s roommate said he spent year after year in bed after he left Pink Floyd. He said he wouldn’t leave his bed because if he stayed there, the possibilities were limitless. If he chose to leave his bed and do something, then he would have made a choice, therefore limiting the possibilities. His roommate finally convinced him that if he stayed in bed, the only possible outcome is that he would stay in bed.

Sid Barrett and David Gilmour were the two main guys. They are still living.

"far beyond what most "pop music" is today" i.e. mainstream radio which represents less than 1% of all music today. Not committing much are we?

Let's hope they're retired, their last album "The Endless River" was crap.

Little is known about the early life of Washington Pinkus Smith-Floyd, who records under the name Pink Floyd, except that he was born with 16 fingers, 14 toes, and a 2-foot tail.

Shunned by his family, he left his village at a very early age and found work as a freak with a traveling circus. On his days off, he took music lessons from the circus's organist, and soon found that his tail and extra digits were significant assets that allowed him to play multiple instruments simultaneously.

One night, after a severe whipping by the circus's alcoholic proprietor, 20-something Floyd ran away to London, where he started busking at train stations. He was soon discovered and signed to Capitol Records.

His first album, Dark Side of the Moon, was released to widespread acclaim in March 2019. The album featured dozens of guests, including Adam Levine, Beck, Meghan Markle, Jimmy Page, Ozzy Osbourne, Rush Limbaugh, Colin Kaepernick, North West, and Baron Trump.

They are likely retired, just letting the royalties roll in from their phenomenal recordings. The guitarist is one-of-a-kind.
