structural writing taught to students limit creativity and should be done away with?

    Structured and creative writing shouldn't be correlated.

    It's totally different directions and has different purposes.

    So, no, it doesn't limit own's creativity. It's just another form of creativity, if you want.

    Far from it, being able to use the language correctly is the only way you can properly get creative with it. But that is not really its purpose, it is to be able to analyze, organize, and convey knowledge in a coherent way so that reder understands WTF you are on about.
