What's happening with the going malls in US recently?

According from the U-toob internet, (please excuse the miss spelling). There are malls that are either going out of business, not doing so well, about to get torn down, there are some is coming back.

There were allot of malls back then but now are fewer. But at what percentage?

Thanks for your response.

It's a combination of people shopping online, and lots of people are still remembering the recession. Even when we have disposable income, we're less likely to spend it.

There are still about 1,100 malls in the U.S. today, but a quarter of them are at risk of closing over the next five years, according to estimates from Credit Suisse. Other analysts predict the number will be even higher.

Our small city (pop 20k) mall, nearly all the specialty retailers have closed. Though the 3 big anchor stores are still open. Amazon, eBay, and the other online sites are killing the malls. Later generations just aren't shopping @ the mall like the baby boomers did.
