Look at Sony MDR-7506 - they are true over-ear ones, studio grade, extremely comfortable to wear and some of the best quality headphones there are. Not gimmicky or showy, they just work exceptionally well.
You can get them for less than 100- if you shop around.

I think Sony makes some. Audio-Technica also do so. I have an old pair, model K240, made by AKG that I bought in the 1980s. They are still in good condition and works fine. Very comfortable and sounds good. I saw videos and photos of pros using AKG headphones inside music studios. I was impressed and bought one. No regret. I also bought a pair of Sennheiser headphones but they are not my favorites as they do not enclose my ears and do not exclude sounds from the surroundings.
I owned a pair of cordless headphones that did not cover my ears a few years back. The spring action of the head band is not that strong so it kept slipping off my head. The last time I used it, it fell off my head into a pool of water, and it got destroyed as a result.
When it comes to high end audio, I buy American or European speakers and amplifiers. For CD and DVD equipment I buy Japanese or Korean. AKG was bought by Harman, an American company but Harman was recently acquired by Samsung.

The key word is "circumnaural".
Of course, some of the ones you might like aren't called that.

maybe you should go to a store and try them on first before you get it from amazon
