Mariana Victoria---eldest daughter of Spain's King Philip V and Elisabeth Farnese---at age 3 was betrothed to King Louis XV of France.

These marriages were political alliances and power mergers. It was not uncommon in those times for infants to be promised in marriage to other royal children with the aim to ally countries, gain more political power and more money.

Actually, she was engaged to the young Louis XV of France at the age of seven. Fortunately she was rejected due to her age, the marriage never took place and she was sent back to Spain.

It would have just been a political arrangement - nothing more.

It was a way of making peace or making allies.

She was a pawn in the political game of improving relations after the Treaty of the Hague following the disasterous War of the Quadruple Alliance.
