So I got a friend that lives Ghana he finally got his permanent Green and wants to move to the US how would go about getting a place to stay?

First you wait till he shows up on your door step. Send no money till then. Then you look all his paper work over very close. Double check it with immigration or go on line to check his status. You then go from there. As I have never heard of any one who lives in Ghana getting a green card from the U.S. unless they are in the U.S. There could be exceptions. Like He needed return short term for a family funeral or such.

If by "permanent Green" you mean he's somehow obtained permanent resident status in the US... He'd find a place to stay just like everyone else does. He'd figure out his monthly budget and go to an apartment listing website and start searching and applying. Conventional immigrants to the US don't get the kind of resettlement help available to refugees and asylums. In the US you're on your own.

That is not possible.
Green Card holders reside permanently in the United States. Green Cards are also only issued in the United States. Either you are confused, misunderstood, or you are about to become a victim of fraud.Source(s): An immigrant from Europe, I live on the American Riviera and work as an attorney in Santa Barbara, California.

You do not have a friend. You have a scammer.
He would already be living in the US if he just got his green card.

His relation who sponsored the visa to enable him to get a green card ( once he is in the US) is 100% legally responsible to financially sponsor him until he becomes a US citizen....so surely your 'friend from Ghana' would be in contact with that person and he will be staying with that person......... if you have never actually met this 'friend from Ghana' and they are just an online chatter, they are not your 'friend' and they are likely to be lying to you as no one gets a 'perminant green card' to enter the US

An immigrant does not get their green card until AFTER they enter US on their immigration visa & settle. His sponsor is responsible for providing all his needs - housing, food, health insurance, etc. - until he receives his green card. Once his green card arrives in the mail at his sponsor's home (which is where he should be staying), he has to go in-person to Social Security Administration to apply for SSN (Form SS-5). Takes about 4 weeks to receive that in the mail. Then he can start looking for a job, start working, etc.
Is he bringing his savings, etc, with him? He'd be a fool not to bring money with him, although a lot of immigrants rely totally on their relatives who sponsored them.
Is he approved for immigration visa through DV Lottery? He must have sufficient funds of his own to provide for all his relocation & living expenses until he receives his GC, obtains his Social Security card, and finds work - IF he can find any sort of job which will earn enough to support himself. Many DV Lottery winners have to return home since they are simply incapable of earning enough to provide for themselves - no education, no training, no qualifications for the types of jobs available in US. So he needs to save enough of his funds for a return flight to Ghana if he cannot provide for himself.

Use Craigslist or other rooming house or apartment listings, otherwise contact an organization that assists newcomers from Ghana and other countries, who are legal immigrants into the U.S.

Wouldn't he just stay with the people who sponsored his green card and who he told the US government he was planning on living with?
