    Probably "I'm really cold, so the 'why' of my life is to go south along this coast that somebody will later name Alaska until I get to San Diego."

    That would really depend on the parameters you're setting for "American" in your question. Were the first "Americans" the people who migrated from Eurasia thousands of years ago, or were the first "Americans" the people who came over from Western Europe hundreds of years ago? The distinction is crucial.
