√x + 2 - 6 = -4

√x + 2 = -4 + 6√x + 2 = 2x + 2 = 4x = 4 - 2x = 2.

good work.....and if y = √ ( x + 2 ) - 6 then y(2) = - 4...you can't forget the ( 2 )

√(x+2) - 6 = -4

√(x+2) = -4+6

√(x+2) = 2

[√(x+2)]² = [2]²

(x+2) = 4

x = 2...............ANS

√(x+2) - 6 = -4,

√(x+2) = 2

Squaring both sides, x+2 = 4,

x = 2.

To your memory: once you square both sides you need to check with your answer against the original equation for the satisfaction. Reason: (± √p)^2 = p, where p is any integer.

Thankfully you included a picture, the best way to write this equation is:

√(x+2) -6= -4

rule: What we do to one side of the equal sign we must do to both.

Add 6 to both sides:

√(x+2) -6 +6 = -4 +6

√(x+2) = +2

Square both sides

x +2 = 4

-2 both sides

x = 2
