There are 3 bases on a menu and 3 layers. The chef says there are 18,000 ways to order. How much toppings are there?

Suppose there are 11 toppings, and for each topping you have 2 choices: take it or leave it. So when you choose your toppings, there are 2^11 = 2048 possible ways.

Multiply that by the 3 bases (assuming you must choose exactly 1 base) and 3 layers (assuming you must choose exactly 1 layer) and you get 18,432.

This would make sense if the chef rounded down.
