# Find the shaded area when? Relevance

2) Which is the shaded region the triangle or the circle?

Area of the circle = pi times radius^2

Area of the triangle = 0.5 times radius^2 times sine(of given angle)

If the shaded area is the circle then it is: area of circle - area of triangle

• I'm assuming the "shaded area" is the slice of pie for each case.  In which case:

a) A = pi r^2 for the whole pie and a = theta/360 * A = 70/360*pi()*6^2 = 21.99 cm^2 ANS.

b) = (104/360)*pi()*14^2 = 177.9 cm^2 ANS

c) = (80/360)*pi()*5^2 = ?  ANS you can do the math.

• 2. a. area of sector= 70/360 * π*6² ≈ 21.99 cm²

area of triangle= 6sin35° * 6cos35°≈ 16.91 cm²

area below the triangle= 21.99 - 16.91= 5.08 cm²

It looks like the only shaded area is half of question 3.  Looks like a trick question.
