Short sayings that express universal truths or good advice that have endured over time. For example, I had no shoes and complained until I saw someone who had no feet.

In English when you say "the Proverbs" (with "the" in front of it) and capitalize the "P", it's usually meant as a reference to the Book of Proverbs in the Jewish Bible. They were traditionally thought to have been written by King Solomon but modern scholars think that is highly unlikely. They are a collection of many short (one or two sentences) pieces of wisdom, life advice, and religious admonitions, compiled together over a very long period of time from both Jewish and non-Jewish sources. For examples, just find a copy of the Book of Proverbs online.

Smartass sayings with sense moral in them. Like...

"Watch the doughnut, and not the hole."
