North America and South America are continents. Central America is geologically part of North America and not a continent.  North and South America are collectively called "The Americas".

The USA is the only country with "America" in its name. The citizens of no other country call themselves "Americans".

That is why we call the USA America and refer to citizens of the USA as being Americans.

Because it’s short for “United States Of America” it’s the same as why we would call the “United Kingdom” as UK

America is actually the name of a 2-continent landmass chain. The only corollary would be Eurasia.

America is not a continent. North America and South America are continents. The US is called America because it's short for United States of America. It's like a nickname. And no other country has the word America in its title.
