A plant makes its food (glucose) with through a process called photosynthesis.

I know, I know, you didn't ask but if you are curious to carry out photosynthesis plants need four things: chloroplasts, light, water and carbon dioxide.

Water and minerals are absorbed by the roots and are pumped up to the leaves where sunlight, water, and minerals are combined through photosynthesis to make various sugars including cellulose, the sugar that makes up all organic fibers.  The plant uses the cellulose to make more plant and seeds for reproduction.
