What makes the small block chevy such a dependable and simple engine ?

Not a politics question.
But anyway, it is way over-engineered. The forces generated by the piston in the combustion chamber and transferred down the connecting rod to the crankshaft are much less than what could damage those parts. The block bearings around the crank are quite large. The timing gears to the camshaft are oversized too. Cannot get much more bulletproof.Source(s): Used to take those '50s Chevy engines apart for souping up in the '60s and '70s.
