Energy is taken from the sun

Sun hits panels and the panels charges the batteries, for a generator.

It depends on the type of solar.  Passive solar uses the sun's energy to heat and transfers that heat to where heating is needed (this would be how some people heat their swimming pools, perhaps).  Solar electricity relies on electron transfer that occurs on the atomic scale: the energy of electron excitement corresponds to specific light wavelengths, depending on the element (the atom configuration), and the excitation of electrons by light is what drives an electrical potential and electron flow (current).  Exciting an electron out of a shell creates a charge disparity, basically.  That charge disparity can be controlled and used as electrical energy.

Either way, it is a case of transformation of energy from one type to another (light to heat or light to electricity). the details of solar panel conversion of light to electricity are somewhat complicated, because it requires the use of fairly specific materials to work best and each material has its own particular functional method (what is happening in detail).  Nevertheless, the general idea is as described.

Light is a form of energy

The solar panel converts one type of energy into another, in this case, electricity
