Could you install a handgun in your front door to automatically fire at any undesirable that tries to enter your property ?

I used to do something similar, before I moved into a secure access building, although it was non-lethal and it was only there when I was out of town.
To all those saying he could kill a girl scout or UPS guy, notice the OP said it is for illegal entry, AKA a break in. The gun doesn't go off just because someone's knocking on the door.

Can you install a handgun to automatically fire when someone comes through your door? Absolutely! Is it a good idea? No way. This sounds like something that a criminal might do for when the cops show up. You are justified in using deadly force to protect your life or your family but you are also responsible for every bullet you fire and even if the bullet doesn't hit anyone, you will likely go to jail just for having a gun rigged in that manner.

Sure, just like this guy did - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/12...

Yes you can. But be ready to suffer the consequences. Prison is a lonely place.

You could but that would be irresponsible and stupid. What if a neighbor came over with a question or to bring you a Christmas gift? Or a delivery person preferred to put a package between the doors instead of leaving it on the step. You didn't think it through very well did you?

No that would be murdering somebody. Imagine if someone else did that and shot your Mother or Father, you would be pretty upset about it wouldn’t you?

No, you likely face murder of manslaughter charges.

Sure. But I want to be in the court room when you try to explain why the little Girl Scout was shot while trying to sell cookies.

Better check with the FBI on that.
