how might poetry help a person cope with change?

My friend and I are wondering how people use poems to help cope with any type of change.

Poems sometimes make you feel or not feel anything at all, and that helps you perhaps think more clearly.

The same way you use music. I was just watching a reality competition show where one person talked about how one song helped her when her partner died, and another talked about how "Fighter" by Cristina Aguilera helped him whenever he had problems. Songs are poetry put to music. Before recorded music, poets were the "rock stars" of the day. Women fainted at their readings, and people read poetry for the same kind of expression of their own feelings that you get from music.
