If a blue disc capacitor on a circuit board is burst open would that make the capacitor faulty,my tv stopped working only standby ?

    maybe it was a vdr ... it is an over-voltage protector ... when the voltage goes up it will become a short so the fuse will be blown.

    change it with the same type .. are you good at desoldering and soldering?

    That blue disc probably isn't a capacitor. 

    It is more likely an MOV (metal oxide varistor), which is a surge suppressor 

    (yes, they are built into equipment, too). 


    It is likely that your power source delivered a surge 

    larger than what the MOV could handle. 

    That would have either burned it open or caused it to short, 

    which is what I think happened. 

    The short then blew a fuse, probably one that doesn't 

    look like a normal fuse to the average person. 


    Remedy: A trip to a TV repair shop. 

    Cost depends on the shop and the particulars of your individual case,

    but it is likely to run in the range of $45 to $100.

    Of course it will.  Devices are not made with added useless components.
