How to hatch ducklings?

I will be getting an incubator and some duck eggs soon. I’ve done my fair share of research, but I’m confused on a couple of things.

1. What do I do right after the eggs hatch?

Some sites told me that I should leave them in the incubator for 24-48 hours after hatching, but others say nothing at all or that they can be handled when dry.

2. For the brooder, would an old bird cage (24x18x12) with a heat lamp work? There would be the bars for the cage bottom which would allow any water/feces to drop through, but I don’t know if that would irritate their feet or if they would get stuck.

It is a cage meant for a parakeet if that would help.

3. Is there anything that you think would be useful to know?

Thank you!
