GFI not behaving as expected.?

i have a gfi protecting 8 outlets

resetting is inconsistent and only really works when i have something plugged in

so i guess the ground is off

or not connected

but the issue is that there are two outlets that still dont work when the gfi is reset

is it a faulty gfi?

Faulty wiring is more likely....meaning opening the wall and inspecting how it is wired.

Your description is more consistent with faulty wiring to the outlets protected by the GFI than with a problem with the GFI itself.

PLEASE have a qualified person check the circuit.

doubtful the gfi is faulty. 2 outlets still not working is a wiring problem ... if you're handy, remove the last outlet before the ones that don't work and examine the wiring. If it is ok, then remove the two that don't work and examine their wiring. you're looking for somewhere the wires are disconnected. if you aren't handy, this is a job for a handyman. [lots cheaper than an electrician]
