what is difference in butter beans and lima beans?

    Butter beans are bigger and have a slight buttery taste.

    Lima beans are the smaller of the two, they have a fresher / 'greener' taste.

    These sorts of things vary regionally but where I grew up although lima beans and butter beans were the same bean lima beans were green and immature beans while butter beans were fully mature and white to tan in color.

    Not a heck of a lot. Butter beans are small lima beans.
