what is the best desktop computer viruse protection program out there. thanks, bill?

    i just use windows defender as it comes with the os.  if i download anything executable that i don't necessarily trust i scan it with the free version of malwarebytes.  if i really get paranoid i might run it by one of those websites that does scans with multiple scanners. 

    and don't click on every random box that pops up in front of your face, and look around the screen a little before you reflexively click on whatever it is you *think* you're clicking on... etc... etc...

    i've had relatives that would run all kinds of "protection programs" on their junk, and constantly got infected anyway, just because they relied on that crap and didn't take, or know how to take, basic precautions

    I like Avira, but it's a pain to reinstall when you need to (without getting charged again).  So I go with the free version of AVG.
