For mostly black and white text pages, a laser printer is the lowest cost "per page". Inkjets are more expensive per page.
A laser toner will print thousands of pages, does not dry out, and are easy to find on places like Amazon or local computer shops.
Inkjet generally print less pages per cartridge, the heads can slime up or clog, and the ink can dry out if left sitting a long time. Also, many inkjet printers run "cleaning" cycles, which consumes ink every time (waste). They run cleaning cycles to try and prevent clogged print heads. This all raises the price of inkjet pages.

most inkjets are cheap to buy but expensive to run, that's how the manufacturers justify the low initial cost.
Lasers are more expensive to buy but cheaper to run if you are doing large volumes of text

The Epsom ecotank and it's more expensive sisters and cousins you can get the ink off of eBay 4 bottles that's a year's supply of ink for $20 and when you buy the printer it comes with enough ink for a year. The price is not that bad either they're under $200. It doesn't use cartridges it uses bottles of ink that you fill the tanks with. Allowing you cheap rent decent copies dirt cheap

Go with a laser printer. The toner can be expensive, but you can usually find cheaper alternative versions on ebay.
The only downside with a laser printer is the pages don't feel as nice as an inkjet, because they put toner on each page, the pages feel a little 'grippy'. But it's not a huge problem when you see how much it saves you in printing.
What ever printer you choose, search the mode with the words 'Duty Cycle', this tells you how much the printer is designed to print each month/year.

any laser printer that takes generic cartridges. or any ink jet that allows refills. but a laser in the $50.00 range is ideal for lots of text printing since the cartridges last longer, they are quieter, and faster but generally lack color.
