Why are American pronunciations often called the correct pronunciation for non American words?

    I noticed a lot of Americans pronounce Craig like Creg, whereas in England it's like Cray-g.

    They aren't, in my experience. Where did you get that idea?

    They may be considered standard pronunciation in the US, but that doesn't mean they are generally regarded as correct.

    No idea why they think that - The English pronunciation would be the correct one.

    Reason: What language do they speak in the US? English.
