Is my eyesight really bad? (I’m nearsighted)?

My prescription for glasses is -4.00 (right eye) and -4.50 (left eye). For contact lenses it’s a little stronger: -4.25 for right eye and -4.75 for left eye. How bad is it, mild, moderate, severe?

It is bad enough that you have to wear them all the time! My prescription is similar but I also have astigmatism in both eyes and have a +1.25 prescription tor reading. My glasses are thick enough but I buy a better grade of lenses do they are thinner. It is at least moderate as I know people that are -6 to -9 that is a lot worse than ours!

    Its bad enough that:

You can't function without glasses or contacts.

Your lenses will be noticeably thick if you don't choose some kind of material to make them thinner.

It's not so bad that :

You can't have surgery like LASIK based on the strength of your prescription. There could be other reasons why you can't.

You can't buy readily available contacts.

You are at risk of having a retinal detachment due to your prescription.
