What does it mean to be conditionally rehirable?

If you leave a job and they say your rehire status is conditional what exactly does this mean? Do you have to wait a year to try again?

It is impossible to know what the condition is without them being specific.

It might mean they could rehire you the next time they have an opening, or it might mean they would ask for a contractual commitment of a certain amount of time on the job if you are rehired, or.... To be sure what it means, ask them.

It means certain conditions would have to be met.

It means nothing more than they would consider rehiring you under the right conditions.  So they already know who you are and that might affect any future decisions.  The normal thing would be to consider "would I rehire me" based on past performance and the reason you left in the first place!

A couple of times in the past I've left a business, but stayed on as an advisor.
