Can this finger nail be fixed?

When I was 6 years old my thumb nail got broken  and since then I have a regular nail and the broken one growing on top of the other one, as I show and mark in the picture.

Anyone knows if this can be fixed and how?

Sorry if it disgusts anyone

As far as I heard,  it is possible to remove the whole nail and let it grow new. Ask a doctor.
