A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A geek is usually someone who is a highly passionate fan of some show &/or entertainment genre, plus, all that's connected with it.  Some good examples are Otaku, Trekkies, Gamers, etc.

A nerd is someone who has a great deal of scientific knowledge and have dedicated their lives to that field.

Hi. It's VERY simple, even after all ththese decades with people screwing it up.

A Nerd is someone who is not only socially unskilled or unpopular, but also usually very book-smart about most topics in life, not having actually experienced them personally - usually because of some kind of fear or inhibition due to all the possibilities that can go wrong.

A Geek is someone who could very easily be one of the popular pretties / cool kids krew that simply has a HUGE weakness for any one thing that instantly turns them into a drooling, fact-filled, wide-eyed, won't-shut-up-about-it-now-that-You-said-it, basically krakkhead over the topic, whether they've done it or not. Sat it's skydiving - the aGeek can name 40 different products related to it, but not one bit of info about the planes.

Think of the old term of someone "Geeking out" over something

. It's more of a temporary condition, while being a Nerd is a full-on lifestyle.

It's also often messed up because people call someone a science nerd, or a Star trek nerd (usually the Star wars people used it insultingly), or some other set of people uses the term incorrectly as an insult to their competing geeks.

A Geek would have 30 pictures of a Lamborghini Diablo from different angles & specsheets for the engine, different girls laying on them, while a Nerd would have 30 different cars with the specsheets for all of them, & can translate differences in performance under track, road, dirt, or LeMans, even outer & inner space conditiions plus quote a few video games that used them, even if neither has a learner's permit.

                G'Luck!!!

A nerd is someone who is obsessed with something specific to an annoying degree, a nerd has poor social skills and is generally regarded with disdain. A geek is a socially inept or odd person, usually one who is interested in technology. The words "nerd" and "geek" are often used interchangeably, as if they mean the same thing.

Geek - An enthusiast of a particular topic or field.

Nerd - A studious intellectual, although again of a particular topic or field.

A nerd is socially awkward. A geek is a person who has excessive enthusiasm for and some expertise about a specialized subject or activity, especially in technology. A geek can know how to socialize but if you start talking technology, they may have trouble controlling their enthusiasm on the topic.

Well I can tell you this, a true nerd or true geek would know the answer to your question.

Geek refers more to the passion behind it. Nerd refers to the knowledge of something. It is possible to be both at the same time.

For example, a geek might decorate his entire room in baseball cards. A nerd would be able to tell you the stats of every single player on them without looking.

    •   But a Nerd would be too practical top cover the entire room with something like baseball cards ... male or female. Maybe an entire wall of dry-erase board, with the stats of some players next to a database project layout.
