Any sport that is professional a rookie is a male / female first year with up to 82 regular season games and postseason if the team make it there .

But I consider after 80 games in the NBA at full starter your not a rookie but into 2nd year level .

    More than you'll ever play.

A player is considered a rookie from his first game.

A rookie is anyone (not just athletes) who is currently in their first year on the job.  First-year cops are called rookies as well.  After your first year (or season) is complete, you are no longer a rookie.

All 82 games or at least half the games with 41.
